Maryland Diners: Bonnie's at the Red Byrd, Keedysville Maryland

So this one's a little bit of a culinary curveball (baseball season has started!).  I was driving to visit Antietam Battlefield when I spotted this place just outside of Sharpsburg.  I decided I would heartily nosh there after my battlefield visit.  It was good, but weird, as have been most of my Maryland diner visits so far!

Vibe:  Cranky!

Song heard:  Again, no music.  Rural Maryland is basically Footloose.

Coffee:  Diet coke once again, lots of lunch or late-lunch visits recently.

Did the yolk pop like it should?:  Not applicable.

Can I sit and read a while?:  I wouldn't.

Price:  $18 with tip, and once again if you can manage with lousy atmosphere you do make up on value.

It was at least three in the afternoon after my Antietam visit, but somehow I arrived at a late-lunch spurt.  And man, people were hangry -- the poor waitress seemed to be doing her best but that just wasn't enough for the table next to me.  Honestly people, a good diner is somewhere you go to relax, not to stuff your face before your four p.m. appointment.

Another thing is that these local business listing place mats are becoming one of my favorite things about Maryland diners.  (I mean, if you aren't going to play any music what's a guy supposed to spend his time doing?)  Small towns have everything, everything I say.  Especially if you need lawn work or poured concrete.

As for the name of this place, I have no idea.  I actually asked the waitress what the Red Byrd was and she had no idea.  I walked around the parking lot a little bit, assuming it might have been a motel at one point.  But now it's just Bonnie's.  I blame AirBnB.
