The Various Diners of Whatcom County 5: Diamond Jim's

Diamond Jim's Grill, 2400 Meridian St #1, Bellingham, WA

Let's head back to Bellingham, shall we?  We'll drive south and just before getting into downtown proper, in the lovely Fountain District, we'll visit Diamond Jim's.  Is it a diner or bar?  The answer is yes!

Well, we're not going hungry today are we?  Diamond Jim's is a very friendly and active spot for good reason -- the food is great, and so is the service.  Just look at those gorgeous portions of Canadian bacon -- the plate is too damn small!  It's a quirky place as well, even by the standards of non-chain diners.  They serve draft beer, but are only open until 2 p.m.  And closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.  So sayeth Diamond Jim.

Vibe:  Where college kids, hippies, and cops nosh together!

Song heard:  Paul Simon, "The Boxer"

Coffee:  Very good.

Did the yolk pop like it should?:  Yes, and this point it's really an embarrassment of riches when it comes to properly cooked eggs.  Just how many quality short-order cooks are there in Whatcom County?

Can I sit and read a while?:  Yes and no.  On a crowded weekend morning it just wouldn't be right to deny others.

Price:  $21.50

Attention to detail and well cooked food.  Really, we're drowning in riches here in Whatcom County.  The sauce was perfectly cooked and applied, and instead of hash browns I got home-style red potatoes.  They were awesome, and very absorbent of all things yolk, sauce, and Tabasco.

I mean, we're gilding the lily now folks -- multiple types of EB?  I got the traditional, but Cajun sounds very, very sexy.  Although I'm thrown a bit too -- who gets hard cooked eggs on their EB?  Trump I guess.

Overall:

4 / 5 Nighthawks
