The Various Diners of Whatcom County 11: Rusty Wagon Old Tyme Food

Rusty Wagon Old Tyme Food, 6937 Hannegan Rd, Lynden, WA

Back to lovely Lynden, in the center of Whatcom County!  Hope you brought your appetite, partner, as well as your tolerance for Western kitsch!

You're either going to love or hate this place, cowpoke!

Vibe:  Is this Fallout: New Vegas?

Song heard:  Waylon and Willie, "Mommas, Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys" (not kidding)

Coffee:  Pleasant.

Did the yolk pop like it should?:  A very interesting "Western" take (of course) on the beloved EB: instead of two slices of ham, you get a single, solid fried ham steak resting on the two islands of English muffin.  Very innovative, and more of a southern thing to my mind.  (Tennessee maybe?)

Can I sit and read a while?:  As long as you want, within reason.  The place was filling up nicely on a beautiful Saturday morning with locals and bikers.

Price:  $20.68

Hash browns were OK, and the Hollandaise was serviceable, not from scratch as far as I could tell.

On my diner journey so far I've learned at least one thing -- a line of Harleys or a couple of police or sheriff's cars means you're probably at a good place.

Rusty Wagon Old Tyme Food lays it on a bit thick, but at the same time the service was excellent, and the food was pretty good and at a reasonable price.  They have a salad bar too, for some reason.

Overall:

3 / 5 Nighthawks
