About 30 minutes west of Frederick is its young cousin, Hagerstown. And here we are at the Hub City Diner!
I liked it, but it's funky. Both funky-good and funky-off putting. But for sheer value it's not bad. The clientele definitely veers to the elderly, and it's hard not to notice the three-story hospice right next door. But how's the food?
Very good! I like how they don't try and get too fancy with fry placement. This club also had a surprising amount of roast beef over turkey, but that wasn't too bad either.
Vibe: Nursing home.
Song heard: No music, which was disappointing but also fitting.
Coffee: I did a Diet Coke, thank you.
Did the yolk pop like it should?: No eggs benny here at lunch time, so a club sandwich it was. Very respectable, although the pickle was sad.
Can I sit and read a while?: Yes but it was borderline depressing to stay here too long. They have a market, and they serve that market.
Price: $18 with tip. This is where Hub City Diner shines. Are you hungry and on a budget? Do you mind walking around many a parked walker and wheel chair? Then this place is for you!
I don't get to Hagerstown that often, but I'd go back here in a pinch. Ars longa vita brevis, and all that jazz.
